A new extension for a young family that unlocks the rear of the property. A new living area opens generously to the garden, whilst a large roof light brings natural light into the heart of the existing house, large sliding doors frame views of a large oak at the end of the garden. Dark stained timber cladding is proposed creating a softly textured but crisply detailed modern form. This is an ancient Japanese weather-proofing technique, that also references dark stained agricultural buildings around Hertfordshire, alluding to a wider relationship to the landscape and sense of place.
