MCA LLP won this competition in collaboration with our friends at OCARCH ltd The project involves the conversion of a number of listed buildings for community uses and supported housing combined with an innovative low carbon housing development around a new common. The housing is heated via a network of ground source heat pumps and solar thermal arrays, the housing blocks are designed with external spaces and windows optimally orientated and utilities a range of innovative timber based construction systems. Food growing spaces are provided for the housing units and for wider community use which doubles as an energy collection battery and water storage element. The project site is confidential, but has been subject to consultation with the local authority and local development trust.
